San Bernardino, CA: The Inland Empire 66ers of San Bernardino Professional Baseball Club, the California League affiliate of the Seattle Mariners, will pay tribute to legendary performer and philanthropist Dolly Parton on Sunday, August 30th at 5:35 pm hosting Dolly’s Country Fair at San Manuel Stadium.
The fair will coincide with the 66ers final regular season home game of the year as they host the Fresno Grizzlies. Gates will open at 4:30 pm.
“With the passing of Dolly Parton, the 66ers thought that we could provide a venue that celebrates the generosity and kindness that she showed throughout her inspirational life,” Inland Empire 66ers General Manager Hollee Haines said. “Her zeal for living, compassion and charity transcended being a just a performer and made her a humanitarian. We want to engage with that legacy and welcome fans to an event gives us an opportunity to share those ideals and build on one of her greatest accomplishments, childhood literacy.”
Fans who donate a children’s book will receive free admission to the ballpark and those books will be donated to CASA of San Bernardino County, a non-profit that benefits youth in foster care. Free admission will also be granted to those that “dress country-western” as an homage to Parton. All children ages 12 and under are free to attend and adults that choose not to donate can purchase tickets starting at $1.50.
“The more children’s books the better. The more rhinestones the better,” Haines added.
The ballpark will welcome Dolly Parton tribute band and will add fair-style games as well as a mechanical bull for the bolder attendees.
To honor Dolly’s love of animals, the 66ers will also be donating to DonkeyLand Rescue in the Inland Empire to help wild burros in the region. Fans will be able to donate during the game via QR Codes on the video board.
