Storm Take Advantage of 14 Walks, Smoke 66ers 17-3

Lake Elsinore, CA- The Inland Empire 66ers of San Bernardino had a rough night at The Diamond in Lake Elsinore on Wednesday falling 17-3 in a game marred for the Sixers by giving up a six-run second inning and matching a season-worst 14 walks issued. The loss dropped the Sixers to 55-58 and will need to win the remaining four games of the season if they are going to finish over .500 for the first time since 2007.

Inland Empire took a 2-0 lead in the first when Bryan Torres dropped a pop fly off the bat of Sixers batter Edwin Yon allowing two runs to come in. In the bottom of the second the Storm (52-64) batted around unloading six runs; they never looked back. Cole Cummings (UC Santa Barbara) led the way for the Storm going two for three with a double and three walks with three RBI. Every single Lake Elsinore batter reached base at least twice in the game. The Storm ran away with two in the fifth, three in the third and made it a laugher with six more in the eighth. Julio Goff took the loss for the Sixers falling to 5-7 on the year. Inland Empire Designated Hitter Gustavo Campero had to pitch the ninth. Myles Emmerson and Jose Reyes each had two hit games for the Sixers who tallied seven hits in the contest, all singles. Ruben Galindo (5-4) earned the win with four solid innings out of the pen allowing one run.
