San Bernardino, CA- The Inland Empire 66ers of San Bernardino took their shots against the Lake Elsinore on Thursday night at San Manuel Stadium, but the Storm (11-17) always had an answer and downed the Sixers 8-5. The clubs split the four-game series and Lake Elsinore has now won four of the seven meetings of the teams in 2018.
Lake Elsinore took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first, and after being no-hit by the Sixers on Wednesday, they wasted no time as Edward Olivares opened the game with a triple to right. Buddy Reed then tripled the runner home and after two batters it was obvious that this would be a different script than the day before. Reed scored on a Luis Torren's grounder that the Sixers' shortstop couldn't handle. In the fourth the 66ers (12-16) took a lead Brandon Sandoval singled as did Jonah Todd. Sandoval eventually scored on a wild pitch. Alberto Triunfel then drilled a two-out, two-run double giving the 66ers a 3-2 lead. The Storm answered immediately when Taylor Kohlwey smacked a three-run homer in the fifth off starter Alex Klonowski for a 5-5 tie. In the sixth however, Hudson Potts drilled a screamer out to center against Tyler Stevens (1-2). The Storm added two more in the eighth. David Bednar (2-1) earned the win for Lake Elsinore. Lake Bachar was credited with the save allowing just one hit in four innings with three Ks.
The Sixers open a series at Stockton on Friday at 7:10 pm. The contest can be heard live at 66ers.com.
