San Bernardino, CA - The Inland Empire 66ers of San Bernardino and its Major League affiliate Los Angeles Angels are pleased to announce that Jack Santora has been named Field Manager for the Sixers in 2020. The former minor league infielder will get his first taste of the California League since 2003 when he appeared in 47 games as player for the Lake Elsinore Storm. The Golden State is home, however, for Santora who grew up in Monterey, CA and starred at UCLA.
Santora began his instructional career with the Angels as a coach in 2017 with the Low-A Burlington Bees of the Midwest League. He took the managerial reins of the rookie-level Arizona League Angels in Tempe for the 2018 season. Santora's climb up the ladder continued in 2019 running Los Angele's Advanced Rookie Pioneer League affiliate in Orem, UT.
Santora was part of UCLA's 1997 College World Series club and was selected in the 19th round of the 1999 draft by the Arizona Diamondbacks. He played seven-plus seasons in affiliated Minor League Baseball with the D-Backs, Padres and Phillies reaching as high as Triple-A. Santora also played four seasons with the Independent Atlantic League's Newark Bears. His career took him overseas as he played ten seasons in Italian Baseball League, the bulk spent with Rimini. He was on Team Italy's World Baseball Classic squad in 2006 and 2013 with his career ending in 2016 at the age of 39.
"We have been so fortunate in recent years that the Angels have sent us Field Managers that have been incredible to work with," Inland Empire 66ers General Manager Joe Hudson said. "We have appreciated that the leadership in the clubhouse has always supported the 66ers' front office and the Inland Empire community. The Angels have always provided us with leaders that stress accountability and accessibility; we are truly excited to welcome Jack this Spring and continue that tradition."
The 66ers 2020 season begins April 9th at Rancho Cucamonga; the 66ers' home opener is slated for Friday April 17th. For more information about joining the excitement this season visit 66ers.com or call (909) 888-9922.
