JACKSON, TENN. - Battle. That's what the Jackson Generals did on Wednesday night, twice rallying from deficits against the Birmingham Barons to tie the score.

At the end of a four-hour marathon, the home side came up just short, falling 9-8 to the Barons in ten innings. The loss for Jackson (27-19) is the Generals' first against Birmingham (20-26) this season, and it snaps a six-game win streak.
For the second straight night, Birmingham took a top-of-the-first lead, this time getting home runs from Danny Mendick and Matt Rose to go up 3-0. Jackson starter Jayson McKinley was able to knuckle down after those first-inning setbacks, finishing 3.2 innings in his first appearance at Double-A without allowing any further damage. Sam Lewis shepherded a 4-3 lead into the bottom of the sixth, but life got rocky thereafter for the bullpen. Yuhei Nakaushiro allowed three runs in one inning of work, but Bud Jeter and Kirby Bellow (3-2, 3.06 ERA) both allowed unearned runs in weak moments for the Generals defense. As a staff, the Generals averaged 20 pitches per inning on Thursday night, and they gave up multi-RBI hits to Matt Rose, Trey Michalczewski, and Eloy Jiménez.
Despite rallying to tie the game at three in the first inning, the Generals found runs and hits hard to come by for a while. Birmingham starter Dane Dunning struggled with control but kept Jackson off balance through five innings, with only two of his four runs allowed being earned. Galli Cribbs Jr., Jose Queliz, and Juniel Querecuto each drove in runs, while Josh Prince scored twice and stole a pair of bases. The Generals tied a season high with 13 men stranded on base in the loss.
