JACKSON, Tenn. - The Jackson Generals, the Double-A affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks, squeaked by the Tennessee Smokies 1-0 on Friday, winning their second straight one-run game at The Ballpark at Jackson.

The victory for the home side gives the Generals (60-50) their 17th last-at-bat victory in 2018, as well as their ninth walk-off win. Tennessee (53-57) suffered their fifth last-at-bat loss to the Generals as a result of the tightly-waged war.
For starters, Generals pitcher Taylor Widener put down the first six hitters of the game before allowing a hit. The 23-year-old right-hander struck out seven men over the course of six innings, stranding men on base in the third, fifth, and sixth. He gave way to Kevin Ginkel for two scoreless frames of relief, and Bud Jeter (2-1, 2.13 ERA) held the Smokies scoreless in the ninth inning to set the stage for some heroics from Marty Herum.
After collecting just two hits over the first eight innings, the Generals' lineup kicked into gear against Tennessee closer Jake Stinnett (0-5, 5.31 ERA). A one-out single from Kevin Medrano put the game-winning run on base, and a double by Domingo Leyba into the right field corner gave the Generals runners at second and third base. After an intentional walk of Rudy Flores, Herum faced Stinnett with the bases loaded. For the second night in a row, the Generals' third baseman came through with a last-at-bat hit, whacking a single through the left side of the infield to score Medrano from third. Jackson won for the second night in a row without recording a stolen base or a home run, winning their ninth game against the Smokies this year.
