LANCASTER, Calif. - Trey Killian tossed seven strong innings and struck out seven to lead the Lancaster JetHawks over the Stockton Ports, 8-2, on Saturday night at The Hangar.
The JetHawks have won a season-high four games in a row. Stockton dropped its sixth straight contest.
Killian (5-0) received some early run support, as the JetHawks scored twice in the first and added three more in the second. Sam Hilliard blasted a two-run homer in the opening inning, his fifth long ball in his last nine games and seventh overall.
Garrett Hampson added a second two-run shot for the JetHawks in the second inning, his second home run of the season. Roberto Ramos picked up an RBI double.
Killian retired the first eight batters he faced before Iolana Akau doubled with two out in the third. Skye Bolt followed with an RBI single and Josh Vidales added an RBI double.
With the JetHawks leading 5-2 entering the fifth, Stockton loaded the bases with nobody out for the top of their order. Killian struck out Bolt and Vidales before inducing a fielder's choice grounder off the bat of Eli White to get out of the jam. It started a second string of eight straight batters retired by the right-hander.
Killian allowed two runs on four hits in his seven innings of work. His fifth win ties fellow JetHawk Craig Schlitter for the league lead. His seven strikeouts and seven innings pitched tie his season-high in both categories. Salvador Justo and Logan Cozart each threw a scoreless inning in relief for Lancaster.
Yonathan Daza tripled with two out for the JetHawks in the sixth. He scored on a passed ball. In the seventh, after back-to-back singles by Ramos and Chris Rabago opened the frame, Wes Rogers delivered a two-run double.
Brendan Rodgers went 1-for-5 with a double to extend his hitting streak to 11 games. He is hitting .456 during the streak (22-for-46).
The JetHawks have now scored in the first inning in seven of their last nine games. They have scored the first run of the game in 10 of their last 12 contests.
The four-game series continues on Sunday afternoon at The Hangar. Colin Welmon (2-0) will start for Lancaster against Logan Shore (1-2). First pitch is 2:05 p.m.
