(Eastlake, OH) - After some late-inning magic on Friday night the Lake County Captains (21-28) could not carry the momentum over to game two of a four-game series on Saturday at Classic Park. The Great Lakes Loons (15-32) defeated the Captains, 8-1.
The Loons opened the scoring in the third inning. After Captains starter Gregori Vasquez hit Marcus Chiu to lead off the inning, Ramon Rodriguez singled and Moises Perez followed with a two-run triple into the right field corner to give Great Lakes a 2-0 lead. Brayan Morales then singled home Perez to make it 3-0.

Chiu struck again in the fourth inning. Riding a nine-game hit streak, Chiu launched a solo homer to left field for his team-leading seventh long ball of the year, giving the Loons a 4-0 advantage.
The score held until the seventh when an unfortunate misplay led to a triple and another Loons run. Captains reliever Manuel Alvarez walked Ramon Rodriguez and the runner later moved to second on a passed ball. With two outs, Zach McKinstry hit a pop up to left field and Jose Medina lost sight of the ball. It fell on the warning track, Rodriguez scored and McKinstry hustled to third with a triple to give the Loons a 5-0 lead.
Three more Loons runs put the game out of reach in the ninth. Perez led off with a single against reliever Tommy DeJuneas . The right-hander struck out the next two, but Perez advanced to second and third on wild pitches. Brandon Montgomery then hit a two-out RBI single. Jared Walker came up next and blasted a two-run homer to right-center to give the Loons an 8-0 lead.
Lake County's only run came in the bottom of the ninth. After right-hander Aneurys Zabala walked Ulysses Cantu with one out, the runner moved to second on a wild pitch. Medina then pulled a single into right field to plate Cantu.
Vasquez (1-2) took the loss. The right-hander allowed four runs over six frames. He surrendered nine hits, struck out four and did not issue a walk.
Loons reliever Andre Scrubb earned the win. He pitched two perfect innings in the fifth and sixth. Scrubb (3-0) struck out three.
The Captains and Loons have split the first two games of their four-game series. Game three is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on Sunday afternoon at Classic Park.
