LAKE ELSINORE, Calif. - Three unearned runs in the first inning put the JetHawks behind early, and they were never able to make up the difference in a 4-2 loss to the Lake Elsinore Storm on Saturday night at The Diamond.
Luis Castro put the JetHawks (29-31) on the board with a solo homer to lead off the second inning. It was his league-leading 13th home run of the season.
Ryan Vilade singled later in the inning and scored on a Luke Morgan double to bring the JetHawks within a run, 3-2.
Lancaster put the potential tying run into scoring position with less than two outs in each of the next four innings but were unable to score. They went 0-for-11 with runners in scoring position in the game.
Starter Will Gaddis (3-5) recovered after allowing the three unearned runs in the first inning to throw seven solid innings. He allowed five hits, struck out two and walked two. It marked his third-straight quality start.
Storm (31-29) starter Reiss Knehr threw the first four innings in his first start for Lake Elsinore. Nick Kuzia (1-0) picked up the win with a scoreless relief outing. Evan Miller tossed a scoreless ninth for his ninth save.
The series continues on Sunday afternoon with a battle of All-Stars on the mound. Ryan Rolison will start for Lancaster against right-hander Elliot Ashbeck. First pitch is 1 p.m.
