The Lynchburg Hillcats dropped their home finale to the Kannapolis Cannon Ballers 10-5 on Sunday afternoon.

The Hillcats (26-34) fell behind as many as eight runs to the Cannon Ballers (30-30) before chipping away at the deficit.

Tim Elko put Kannapolis on the board first with a double in the first inning to score Brooks Baldwin. In the second, Logan Glass homered to tack on two more runs before Elko drove home another run in the third, giving the Cannon Ballers the four-run lead.

Then in the fifth, the Cannon Ballers would double their lead by putting four more runs on the board. Jacob Burke would double home Baldwin before Troy Claunch would score him with a single. Glass would smack his second home run of the game, third of the series, bringing the lead to eight.

In the bottom of the fifth, the Hillcats would cut the deficit back down to four on several balls that never left the infield. Jake Fox would reach on an error by the shortstop, driving home Victor Planchart. Will Bartlett would double to score two runs, before Dayan Frias would reach on an infield single to wrap up the scoring.

In the sixth, the Hillcats would add another run on the board on a wild pitch to make it a three-run ballgame.

In the seventh, the Hillcats would have two aboard and nobody out, but could not bring anyone around to score. In the eighth, Kannapolis would score twice to put the game out of reach.

The Hillcats will hit the road for the final series of the regular season against Fayetteville beginning on Tuesday. Lynchburg is guaranteed one more home game in the postseason, currently scheduled for September 15th at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are available online or at the box office.
