The Lynchburg Hillcats dropped game two of the series to the Carolina Mudcats by a score of 9-1 on Wednesday evening.

The Mudcats exploded in the first five innings for all nine of their runs before the Hillcats bullpen settled in and finished the ballgame. For Lynchburg, they totaled only three hits on the evening.

The Hillcats scored first as Guy Lipscomb scored on a sacrifice fly in the first inning from Maick Collado to jump out to the early lead. However, that would be all the offensive production Lynchburg would get.

Carolina took the lead in the top of the second on RBI base hits from Blayberg Diaz and Kay-Lan Nicasia, knocking Adam Tulloch from the game.

In the fourth, the Mudcats would tack on four more runs to make it a 7-1 lead. Jesus Parra picked up his first home run on the season, a two-run blast that opened the scoring in the inning. Luke Adams and Jace Avina also picked up RBI base knocks.

Carolina would tack on two more in the fifth inning as Alexander Perez drove home Jheremy Vargas with a sacrifice fly before Adams drive home Diaz on a fielding error by Jose Devers.

For the remainder of the night, Miguel Vinicio and Luis Almonte shut down the Mudcats lineup for four innings. At that point, it was too-little-too-late.

Lynchburg and Carolina will return to Bank of the James Stadium on Thursday night at 6:30 for game three of the series.
