Noponen named Miracle FSL scholarship winner
FORT MYERS, Fla. (August 6, 2014) - The Florida State League Scholarship Committee has announced that Fort Myers Miracle intern Alex Noponen has been awarded one of the 12 scholarships by the league for $1,500.
The scholarship award is based on the financial need and grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. Alex is currently attending Florida Southwestern State College in Fort Myers, Fla. and is majoring in General Studies.
"I'm honored and pleased to be the recipient of this scholarship and my family was too," said Noponen.
The Miami Marlins have sponsored the scholarship program for 15 years and have contributed a total of $148,500. Noponen, along with the winners from the other Florida State League teams, will be honored in a pre-game ceremony at Marlins Park on Sunday, August 3 at 1:10 p.m.
"This is one of the great things we do in the League," said Florida State League President Chuck Murphy. "I congratulate the Directors and General Managers on their dedication and enthusiasm in administering this program."
