Hahn and Ross to Headline Monday's Series Opener

July 18, 2014

San Antonio - The San Antonio Missions will feature a marquee pitching lineup for their series opener with the Corpus Christi Hooks Monday night at Wolff Stadium.

Starting the game will be Jesse Hahn, who began the season with San Antonio before being promoted to San Diego in early June. In seven starts with the Padres, Hahn was 5-2 with a 2.21 ERA and a K:BB ratio of 47:16 over 40.2 innings. San Diego is having Hahn make a start with the Missions in order to keep his endurance while the team resets its rotation for the second half. The 24-year-old, right-hander is expected to throw a couple of innings on Monday before heading back to the Padres' rotation.

Following Hahn for the Missions is fellow righty Joe Ross, who will be making his Double-A debut. On Thursday, Ross was promoted to San Antonio from High-A Lake Elsinore, where he was 8-6 with a 3.98 ERA in 19 starts. Joe, the younger brother of Padres' All-Star hurler Tyson Ross, was a California League Mid-Season All-Star. In 101.2 innings for the Storm, Ross struck out 87 batters against just 28 walks.

Ross, 21, was selected by San Diego in the 1st round (25th overall) of the 2011 First-Year Player Draft out of Bishop O'Dowd High School in Oakland, CA. He entered the 2014 season as the No. 10 prospect in the Padres' system according to Baseball America.

This series will be the first of two, three-game sets between the South Division rivals over the next two weeks. The teams will meet again at Whataburger Field from July 28-30.

First pitch Monday night is set for 7:05 PM.
