MIDLAND--Joey Lucchesi handcuffed the Rockhounds over six scoreless innings as the Missions clinched the 2nd half division title with a 5-3 win Wednesday night at Security Bank Ballpark.
By winning both halves, the Missions would host game five of the division playoff series next week should it go the distance.
Lucchesi allowed just two singles while striking out eight against two walks. He improved to 5-3 and his 1.79 ERA is the lowest in the Texas League since he made his debut on July 3.
Nick Schulz opened the scoring with a solo homerun to right in the second inning. It was the sixth straight game that San Antonio homered. They entered play having hit a league-leading 28 homeruns since July 31.
Nick Torres collected three hits and drove in a pair of runs. The outfielder is batting .389 over his last 11 games.
The Missions finished with 14 hits. They've recorded double-digit hit totals in three straight games for the first time in over a month.
Eric Yardley allowed a ninth inning run but held on for his sixth save of the season.
