Missions Fall to Hooks in 10

CORPUS CHRISTI-The Missions woes in July continued as they suffered their fourth straight loss and sixth walkoff loss of the month Monday night in front of 5,114 at Whataburger Field.

Delino DeShields, Jr. led off the 10th with a solo shot to left off Josh Geer as the Hooks moved out of the basement in the South Division and are even with San Antonio in the standings. Both clubs trail first place Midland by six games.

The Missions blew a 4-3 lead in the seventh when Luis De La Cruz surrendered a game-tying single to M.P. Cokinos. De La Cruz blew his third save as his July ERA ballooned to 6.75.

Cody Overbeck slugged a solo homer and added a two-run triple for the Missions, who lost for the 15th time in 20 extra inning games and tied the Hooks for the most one-run losses in the league at 23.

Notebook: San Antonio committed three errors, leading to a pair of unearned runs. They been charged with six errors in two games…The Missions have allowed 103 runs in their last 20 games and have also allowed a homerun in nine straight.
