San Antonio - The San Antonio Missions are excited to announce their schedule for the 2014 season. The defending Texas League champions will open the 2014 campaign on the road, Thursday April 3, at Hammons Field in Springfield, MO for the start of a three-game series with the Springfield Cardinals (St. Louis Cardinals AA). Following their series with the Cards, the Missions will play a three-game set with the Tulsa Drillers (Colorado Rockies AA) from April 6-8 at ONEOK Field.
On Thursday, April 10, the Missions will open their 21st season at Wolff Stadium when they take on the Cardinals at 7:05 PM. It will be a special night at the Wolff as the Missions will have a pre-game ring ceremony in addition to raising their 13th Texas League championship pennant. San Antonio's season-opening homestand will run from April 10-15.
The Missions are thrilled to once again be home for the Fourth of July holiday, which falls on a Friday this year. First pitch on Independence Day will be 5:05 PM, with a post-game concert to follow. Some of the past performers to take the Wolff Stadium stage on the Fourth have included Jack Ingram, Robert Earl Keen and Jerry Jeff Walker.
Several popular promotions return to Wolff Stadium this season, including Dollar Night, where fans can purchase beer, hot dogs, popcorn and soda each for just $1 during every Thursday home game. Each Tuesday will once again be a $2 Tuesday, with reserved tickets, parking and beer costing $2. Following every Saturday home game, Mission fans will be treated to special firework shows.
Also returning will be the club's jersey giveaway series courtesy of McCombs Ford West. This season's series will feature former Missions' legends now in the Baseball Hall of Fame: Brooks Robinson, Billy Williams, Joe Morgan and Dennis Eckersley. Each jersey giveaway will fall on a Friday: April 11, May 16, June 13 and August 15.
Security Service Federal Credit Union's Used Car Night is set for Friday, June 20. In 2013, a season-high crowd of 7,389 packed Wolff Stadium, where 12 lucky fans drove home in a used car.
The Missions will continue their support for our Armed Services in 2014 with five Military Appreciation nights: April 30, May 28, June 18, July 23 and August 27.
This season, San Antonio will look to win consecutive TL titles for just the third time in franchise history. Their previous back-to-back championship runs were from 1963-64 and 2002-03.
