Riders Rough Up Missions

July 29, 2014

FRISCO-The RoughRiders used the longball to account for five runs Friday night and snapped the Missions winning streak at five games in front of 6,985 at Dr. Pepper Ballpark.

J.T. Wise slugged a three-run homer off Michael Dimock to break a 4-4 tie with two outs in the eighth.

The minor leagues top homerun hitter, Joey Gallo, connected on a two-run shot off James Needy earlier in the game. Gallo has homered in four straight games and has hit 35 on the season.

San Antonio couldn't hold an early 3-0 lead as Needy continued his recent struggles.

The righty allowed five runs and a career high six walks in his last start. He struggled to get ahead of the count Friday and labored through five innings, allowing three runs while walking three.

Needy has a 5.20 ERA over his five starts this month.

The Missions remain three games back of first-place Midland.

Notebook: Cory Spangenberg established a team-high by hitting in his 11th straight game. He has six straight multi-hit efforts and has a league-best .388 average for the month
