Demeritte, Toussaint earn weekly honors

PEARL, MS - The Mississippi Braves have announced their Farm Bureau Player & Pitcher of the Week for the week ending Sunday, April 29. Mississippi Braves outfielder, Travis Demeritte, and right-handed starting pitcher, Touki Toussaint have been selected for the weekly awards.

PEARL, MS - The Mississippi Braves have announced their Farm Bureau Player & Pitcher of the Week for the week ending Sunday, April 29. Mississippi Braves outfielder, Travis Demeritte, and right-handed starting pitcher, Touki Toussaint have been selected for the weekly awards.

 In seven games, the 23-year-old Demeritte batted .346 (9-for-26) with two doubles, a home run, and 4 RBI. He recorded a hit in six of the seven games including multi-hit contests in two of them. Demeritte capped his week by going 3-for-4 during the Braves 6-3 win over Jackson on April 27 with a double and two RBI. He then followed that performance with a go-ahead two-run double the next night. Demeritte was acquired by Atlanta from Texas on July 27, 2016, and is rated as the No. 21 prospect for the Braves according to MLB.com.
In two starts for the M-Braves, 21-year-old starter Touki Toussaint went 1-0 with a 2.25 ERA and was tied for third in all of Minor League Baseball with 13 strikeouts last week. Toussaint's first win of 2018 came on Saturday, April 28 against Jackson, tossing seven innings of one-run baseball, walking none and strikeout out seven. The outing was the longest by an M-Braves starting pitcher this season. The Coral Springs, FL native currently ranks second in the Southern League with 30 strikeouts and is 1-1 with a 4.44 ERA over five starts this season. Toussaint was the 16th overall selection in the 2014 Draft by the Arizona Diamondbacks and was traded to the Braves in 2017. Toussaint is the No. 11 prospect for the Braves according to MLB.com
