Lugbauer Homers for a Third Straight Game, M-Braves Fall to Pensacola 6-2

PEARL, MS – Drew Lugbauer homered for a third straight game, but the Mississippi Braves (18-23) lost 6-2 to the Pensacola Blue Wahoos (27-15) on Thursday night at Trustmark Park.

Lugbauer leads the Southern League with 10 home runs and a .584 slugging percentage. The first baseman has 56 career M-Braves homers, continuing to add to his own club record.

LHP Domingo Robles battled through his sixth start. After allowing three runs in the first inning, Robles got through the second unscathed. The Blue Wahoos added another in the fourth to extend their lead to 4-0. Robles came back again, preventing any other runs and retiring eight in a row to close out his outing. The left-hander finished with four runs allowed, three earned, in five innings with no walks to nine strikeouts.

Robles is 3-3 with a 2.45 ERA over 36 2/3 innings this season. The left-hander has 11 walks and 53 strikeouts.

Cal Conley extended his hitting streak to seven games with an infield single in his first at-bat. Conley went 2-for-3 with a walk in his 10th multi-hit game. Atlanta’s No. 13 prospect has reached base in 14 of the last 15 games.

Lugbauer homered to the Farm Bureau Grill past right field, a two-run shot in the fourth to cut the deficit in half and make it 4-2. The first baseman is the sixth M-Brave to homer in three straight games, having done so twice. Lugbauer homered in three straight games from July 25-28 in 2021.

RHP Alec Barger improved to a 1.02 ERA with a scoreless inning. Barger has 23 strikeouts to nine walks in 17 2/3 innings.

The M-Braves failed to get anything going after Lugbauer’s homer, picking up one hit in the final five innings.

The fourth game of the series is on Friday at Trustmark Park. RHP Alan Rangel (1-3, 4.24) will make the start for Mississippi while RHP Evan Fitterer (3-1, 3.18) makes the start for Pensacola.
