BIRMINGHAM, AL — The Mississippi Braves began their longest road trip of 2024 on Tuesday night in Birmingham. They began the two-week Alabama journey with a 2-1 loss to the Barons at Regions Field. The loss was the second straight by one run and the fourth straight. Mississippi stranded 11 runners on base, finishing 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position.

A season-high four M-Braves (3-7) recorded two-hit nights, with the club cracking nine in the contest. Justin Dean led the way again for Mississippi, finishing the night 2-for-3 with his eighth stolen base and a walk. Bryson Horne notched his first multi-hit game and ended the night 2-for-4 with a double and RBI.

Drew Parrish (L, 1-2) made his third appearance and second start for the M-Braves and suffered a tough loss. Over 4.2 innings, the lefty struck out seven and walked one, giving up just two runs on seven hits to a prospect-heavy Barons lineup.

The Barons (6-4) got on the board first in the bottom of the first inning. Brooks Baldwin and Edgar Quero recorded singles between a pair of Parrish strikeouts, and then Bryan Romas, the White Sox's fourth-ranked prospect, drove home Baldwin with a single to make it 1-0.

Parrish retired 10 of the next 11 batters before giving up three straight soft singles in the fifth and a sacrifice fly by Wlefred Veras to extend the lead to 2-0.

Mississippi's offense stranded two on base in the first two frames and could not break through against Birmingham starter Mason Adams (W, 1-1). The right-hander worked 6.0 shutout innings, walking none and struck out nine.

Geraldo Quintero hit a one-out single up the middle in the top of the seventh, and then Bryson Horne split the gap in left-center for a run-scoring double to cut the lead in half. The M-Braves couldn't add any more against Barons reliever Andrew Dalquist and stranded six on base over the final three innings, including the bases loaded in the eighth.

Horne, Drake Baldwin, and Keshawn Ogans joined Dean with multiple hits in the loss. Mississippi relievers Patrick Halligan, Anthony Vizcaya, and Parker Dunshee combined to shut out the Barons over the final 3.1 innings. Vizcaya was making his M-Braves debut after being added to the roster on Tuesday afternoon.

The M-Braves will try to stop the four-game losing skid on Wednesday evening at Regions Field. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 pm with Mississippi sending RHP Ian Mejia (0-0, 4.70) to the mound against Birmingham LHP Ky Bush (0-1, 9.00). Coverage begins at 6:45 pm on 102.1 The Box, Bally Live, and MiLB.tv. The M-Braves return to Trustmark Park for a six-game series against the Pensacola Blue Wahoos from April 30-May 5.
