Vines Shines in Seven Shutout Innings, M-Braves Top Shuckers 4-0

Pitching staff delivers two-hit shutout and first nine-inning shutout this season

BILOXI, MS - RHP Darius Vines tossed seven shutout innings, the pitching staff combined for a two-hit shutout and the Mississippi Braves (31-42) topped the Biloxi Shuckers (36-35) 4-0 on Friday night at MGM Park.

The M-Braves pitching staff put together their second shutout and first nine-inning shutout this season.

Vines posted his second seven inning start this season and the fourth of his career. The right-hander did not give up a hit until the sixth inning and finished with no runs on two hits and three walks with three strikeouts.

Vines sits at a 4.95 ERA in 77 1/3 innings with a league-leading 89 strikeouts. He is currently ranked as Atlanta’s No. 13 prospect.

Vines battled LHP Brandon Knarr who went six innings, giving up two runs.

In the third, Andrew Moritz gave the M-Braves their first baserunner with an infield single.

Riley Delgado doubled to right field to put two runners in scoring position, and Cody Milligan drove a sacrifice fly to left to score Moritz and make it 1-0.

Delgado picked up two hits and a double from the ninth spot in the order. The infielder is hitting .276 with a home run and 14 RBI this season.

In the seventh, Logan Brown added a clutch RBI single on a liner to center field to make it 2-0.

In the eighth, Cade Bunnell scored Milligan with a base hit to make it 3-0.

Bunnell went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI in his fifth game for the M-Braves. He was promoted from High-A Rome for two games on May 12-13 and again sent to Mississippi on Tuesday, June 28.

RHP Justin Yeager relieved Vines and went 1-2-3 with two strikeouts in the eighth.

In the ninth, Moritz drove a sacrifice fly to the warning track in right field to bring in Trey Harris and make it 4-0.

Moritz delivered his eighth multi-hit game, going 2-for-4 with an RBI. He is currently on a 13-game on-base streak.

LHP Jake Higginbotham closed out the game with a strikeout of Thomas Dillard to secure the 4-0 win.

The fifth game of the series is on Saturday at MGM Park. RHP Tanner Gordon (4-4, 7.21) makes the start for Mississippi against RHP Noah Zavolas (2-1, 6.34) for Biloxi. The first pitch is at 6:05 pm CT, with coverage starting at 5:50 pm CT on 103.9 WYAB, TuneIn Radio, First Pitch App, and MiLB.tv.
