PEARL, MS - RHP Darius Vines went seven shutout innings with nine strikeouts, but the Mississippi Braves (27-36) dropped the series finale 2-0 to the Birmingham Barons (27-36) on Sunday afternoon at Trustmark Park.

Vines turned in his best and longest outing of the season. In his seven innings, he allowed just three hits and no walks in an efficient 79 pitches. In 12 starts, Atlanta’s No. 13 prospect holds a 5.37 ERA and a league-leading 82 strikeouts over 65 1/3 innings.

The M-Braves mustered just two hits in a loss that saw only 28 M-Braves batters come to the plate.

Neither team scored in the first seven innings. In the eighth, the Barons scored two runs on three hits to take a 2-0 lead.

RHP Justin Maese lowered to a 2.70 ERA with a scoreless ninth inning. The right-hander added another strikeout and now has 43 strikeouts to just eight walks over 26 2/3 innings this season.

The M-Braves went down in order in the ninth to end the game at 2-0.

Mississippi will have a day off before a six-game road series against the Montgomery Biscuits from June 21-26. The series starts a 12-game road trip with the second series at the Biloxi Shuckers from June 28-July 3.

The M-Braves return to Trustmark Park on July 4 for a 12-game homestand against the Pensacola Blue Wahoos and the Rocket City Trash Pandas.
