SAN JOSE, CA. - After an early start by the Modesto Nuts' offense, the San Jose Giants scored eight unanswered runs to send the Nuts to an 8-4 loss on Tuesday night at Excite Ballpark.
Right away in the first inning, the Nuts (32-44; 2-4) got to Matt Frisbee (W, 3-6). Jake Scheiner launched a two-run double before scoring on Jack Larsen's RBI triple. In the second, Johnny Adams smashed a solo home run.
That was the last run the Nuts' offense pushed across against the Giants' (32-43; 2-4) starter who worked five innings allowing four runs on seven hits with two strikeouts and two walks.
The Giants started their comeback in the second inning against Penn Murfee (L, 3-1). Manuel Geraldo singled home a run. In the third, Joey Bart tripled home a run. The Giants took the lead in the fourth. After Murfee struck out two to start the inning, Brandon Van Horn whacked the go-ahead three-run homer. Murfee went four innings allowing five runs on eight hits but with six strikeouts and one walk.
Heliot Ramos opened the game up with a two-run homer in the sixth.
J.T. Salter retired the last six of the game out of the Nuts' bullpen.
