Early Homer Sparks Storm Offense in 7-4 Loss

Modesto, CA. - Ljay Newsome could not slow the Lake Elsinore Storm's offense in a 7-4 defeat for the Modesto Nuts on Sunday night at John Thurman Field.
Edward Olivares homered off Newsome (L, 4-6) on the second pitch of the game. Marcus Green Jr. singled home a run in the second.
The Storm (37-44; 2-8) plated four runs in the fourth to open a six-run lead. Eguy Rosario, Buddy Reed and Hudson Potts each singled home runs with two outs in the fourth. Newsome lasted just four innings for the Nuts (33-48; 3-8) allowing ten hits and six runs with four strikeouts and one walk.
The Nuts attempted a comeback against Chris Paddack (W, 4-1) but a pair of double plays thwarted two Nuts' rallies. Anthony Jimenez singled home two runs in the fourth. Kevin Santa scored on a throwing error in the fifth. Gareth Morgan smashed a solo home run in the sixth, but it was not enough from the Nuts' offense.
Paddack tossed six innings for the Storm allowing four runs on ten hits with three strikeouts.
The Storm bullpen tossed three scoreless innings and allowed just one hit. Blake Rodgers (S, 2/2) worked the ninth and induced the Storm's third double play of the night to end the game in the ninth.
The Nuts' bullpen of Danny Garcia and Jack Anderson worked a combined five inning and allowed just one run with four strikeouts.
