Modesto, CA. - After allowing the tying run in the top of the ninth, Evan White gave the Modesto Nuts a 6-5 walk-off win against the San Jose Giants on Friday night at John Thurman Field.
Wyatt Mills (W, 2-0) came on in the ninth for the Nuts (8-14) to try to nail down the save but allowed a leadoff single. Johneshwy Fargas stole second and went to third on a groundout representing the game-tying run. Mills hit Jalen Miller to put runners at the corners with two outs. While Frandy De La Rosa was at the plate, Mills made an errant pickoff throw to first allowing the Giants (13-9) to tie the game.
In the bottom of the ninth, Tyler Baker lofted a one-out single into shallow right with one out to knock Carlos Diaz (L, 0-1) out of the game. Dylan Rheault entered and got Anthony Jimenez to line out to left for the second out of the inning. Bryson Brigman walked to push the potential winning run into scoring position. Evan White lifted a blooper into shallow right to score the walk-off winning run.
Nick Zammarelli went 3-for-5 with two RBI singles and two runs scored. Joe Rizzo reached base five times with two hits, three walks and two RBI. Ljay Newsome started the game for the Nuts and surrendered three runs on four hits in the first two innings. In his final three frames, Newsome allowed just one hit and struck out seven.
