Modesto, CA. - In a back-and-forth battle, the Modesto Nuts surrendered two leads in a 13-7 loss against the San Jose Giants on Thursday night at John Thurman Field.
Up by a run going to the seventh, Austin Hutchison (L, 0-1) was on the mound for the Nuts (15-19). He first issued a one-out walk to Jacob Heyward before he stole second. Sandro Fabian followed with a RBI double to tie the game. Fabian, representing the go-ahead run, moved to third on a single. After a second strikeout in the inning, Johneshwy Fargas smacked a sharp grounder to third that Joe Rizzo fielded but bobbled on the transfer allowing the go-ahead run to score.
The Giants (20-14) added five more runs in the final two innings of the game to pull away from the Nuts for the series-clinching victory.
Dylan Rheault (S, 2/2) worked the final three innings against the Nuts out of the Giants' bullpen and surrendered just one hit.
Early on, the Nuts opened a lead thanks to three RBI from Evan White. Bryson Brigman added another three hits after a four-hit night on Wednesday. Gareth Morgan homered for the second straight game.
Danny Garcia worked 4 1/3 innings in his start for the Nuts and allowed six runs on six hits with four strikeouts and three walks.
Connor Overton (W, 1-0) worked two innings and allowed just one run out of the Giants bullpen.
