Late Rally Gives Nuts 5-2 Triumph
Stockton, CA. - Ashley Graeter drove in four runs to back Konner Wade in the Modesto Nuts' 5-2 win against the Stockton Ports on Monday night at Banner Island Ballpark to improve their season-high winning streak to six games.
In the opener of a three-game set, Konner Wade (W, 6-6) walked the leadoff man in the first and gave up back-to-back singles to load the bases but allowed just one earned run in the inning. Jake Nottingham had a sac fly and Brett Vertigan scored for the Ports (53-47; 15-15) on a passed ball. That was all Wade would give up in his start for the Nuts (53-46; 21-9).
Wade worked 7.2 innings and allowed just five total hits, only three after the first. He retired eight in a row starting in the first and 13 in a row from the third through the seventh.
With the Nuts down by a run in the seventh, Graeter whacked his first home run of the year. It was a towering, two-run shot down the leftfield line off Ports reliever Joel Seddon (L, 7-6). Graeter added two insurance tallies in the eighth with a two-run single.
Troy Neiman (S, 3/4) stranded two inherited runners in the eighth getting Tyler Marincov to pop out to first before retiring the ninth in order.
