Rancho Cucamonga, CA. - Despite six errors the Modesto Nuts defeated the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes 9-6 on Thursday night at LoanMart Field.
On the mound, the Nuts' (12-16) got a second quality start from Reggie McClain (W, 1-0) who worked six innings and allowed three runs, two earned, while striking out four and walking just one.
The Nuts' offense stayed hot first against Quakes' (12-16) starter Dustin May (L, 0-1). Gareth Morgan started the third with a single before scoring on Joe Rizzo's sac fly. In the fourth, Tyler Baker hit a sharp line drive into center with the bases loaded. It brought in two runs before Jeren Kendell misplayed the ball to allow a third run to score.
May worked 3 2/3 innings allowing four runs, two earned, on five hits with four strikeouts and one walk.
In the fifth, the Nuts added on. With the bases loaded, Donnie Walton ripped a two-run single into center. With Anthony Jimenez going to third, the throw from the center fielder Kendell hit Jimenez and skipped into the dugout allowing a third run to score. Walton added a third RBI on his night with a run-scoring triple in the seventh.
