Lancaster, CA. - Joe Rizzo provided the only meaningful offense for the Modesto Nuts in a 5-1 loss to the Lancaster JetHawks on Saturday night at The Hangar.
Rizzo launched a solo home run in the sixth and recorded an infield hit in the eighth inning to set up the Nuts (4-13; 34-53) best scoring opportunity of the ballgame. Rizzo had two of the Nuts' three hits. Kyle Lewis had the other when he singled in the fourth.
Colin Rodgers (L, 3-5) made the start for the Nuts and hung two scoreless innings before the JetHawks (11-6; 44-43) burst for five runs in two frames. Carlos Herrera put the JetHawks on the board with a two-out RBI triple in the third. Colton Welker immediately drove him in with a single to put the JetHawks in front. The last hit recorded by the JetHawks came in the fourth when Max George launched a three-run homer out to center.
Rodgers worked five innings and allowed five runs on eight hits with six strikeouts and three walks.
The combo of Jeffeson Medina and AJ Franks combined to toss three scoreless and hitless innings out of the Nuts' bullpen.
David Hill started the game for the JetHawks but lasted just three innings despite not giving up a hit Heath Holder (W, 6-0) followed and tossed two scoreless innings out of the bullpen.
