Nuts Sweep Ports with 8-2 Win

Stockton, CA. - Another big offense night carried the Modesto Nuts to an 8-2 win and a three-game sweep of the Stockton Ports in the Divisional Finals. The Nuts (3-0) await the winner of the JetHawks and Quakes series to find out who their opponent will be in the Championship

Stockton, CA. - Another big offense night carried the Modesto Nuts to an 8-2 win and a three-game sweep of the Stockton Ports in the Divisional Finals.
The Nuts (3-0) await the winner of the JetHawks and Quakes series to find out who their opponent will be in the Championship Series starting next Tuesday night.
The Nuts outscored the Ports (0-3) 28-8 in the series with five home runs.
On Friday night, the Nuts jumped all over Evan Manarino (L, 0-1) in the first inning. Kyle Lewis delivered a RBI single. Logan Taylor added a RBI single before he and Joe DeCarlo executed a double steal to bring in a third run in the first inning.
In the third, DeCarlo smashed a three-run homer to give the Nuts a six-run lead.
Robert Dugger started for the Nuts and worked around trouble allowing just one run in 4 2/3 innings. Matt Walker (W, 1-0) checked in with a man on in the fifth and stranded a runner on first. Walker tossed two innings allowing one run on four hits with four strikeouts.
Joey Curletta added a solo home run in the eighth. Curletta finished 3-for-5 with a double as well. Eric Filia went 3-for-4 with a RBI double and a run scored.
Game one of the Championship Series starts on Tuesday night in the South Division. The Nuts will return home for games three, four and five at John Thurman Field starting next Friday.
