Modesto, CA. - Joe Rizzo's second walk-off in the last three days gave the Modesto Nuts a 4-3, twelve-inning win over the Visalia Rawhide to split a four-game series at John Thurman Field.
After trading unearned runs in the eleventh, the Nuts (4-7) needed two runs in the twelfth to win the series finale against the Rawhide (6-5).
Against Austin Mason (L, 1-1), the Nuts started the inning with Gareth Morgan on second as a result of the new extra inning rules in Minor League Baseball. Manny Pazos led the inning off by putting runners on the corners with a single. Joe Rizzo, pinch hitting, smashed a two-run double off the left field wall to give the Nuts the victory.
Randy Bell twirled a gem in his start for the Nuts. The righty worked seven innings and allowed just one run on a RBI groundout. Bell gave up just three hits with two strikeouts and one walk.
David McKay (W, 1-0) allowed just the unearned run to score in the top of the twelfth inning by surrendering a leadoff double, but he retired the next three in order to set the Nuts up for victory.
Donnie Walton led the way offensively for the Nuts going 3-for-5 with a RBI double.
The Nuts open a three-game series with the Ports on Monday night at John Thurman Field. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. on Sunday afternoon. Coverage on ModestoNuts.com will start at 6:50 p.m. Listen live online on your phone, tablet or PC by clicking HERE.
