Visalia, CA. - Early two-out offense was too much for the Modesto Nuts to overcome in a 5-3 loss to the Visalia Rawhide on Saturday night at Recreation Park.
Reggie McClain (L, 1-2) started for the Nuts (19-24) and got two quick outs in the bottom of the first. After that, the Rawhide (23-20) collected four straight hits to record three two-out runs. Daulton Varsho and Drew Ellis smacked back-to-back doubles. Pavin Smith added a RBI single.
In the third, Dominic Miroglio added a RBI single against McClain who worked five innings allowing four runs while striking out five without walking a batter.
Emilio Vargas started the game for the Rawhide and allowed multiple runs in a start for the first time this year. Evan White homered in the fourth. That was the first hit against Vargas. In the fifth, Anthony Jimenez whacked a leadoff single. He stole second and moved to third on a throwing error. On the next pitch, he scored on a wild pitch.
Junior Garcia (W, 1-1) entered after that with 2 1/3 shutout innings while not allowing a hit.
Kevin Ginkel (S, 3/5) allowed a RBI double to Joe Rizzo in the ninth before striking out the side and setting up a rubber game in the three-game series finale on Sunday afternoon.
