SPRINGDALE, Ark. - Naturals' starting pitcher Jason Adam earned Texas League Pitcher of the Week honors for the week of July 7-13, Texas League President Tom Kayser announced Monday.
Adam began the week by picking up his third victory of the season with five shutout innings against the Frisco RoughRiders. He kept the scoreless streak going with seven more shutout innings and seven strikeouts against the Springfield Cardinals while recording his second straight win.
A fifth round draft pick out of Blue Valley Northwest High School in Overland Park, Kansas, Adam, 22, entered the 2014 season as a top ten prospect within the Kansas City Royals organization after going 3-1 in August of 2013 with a 2.83 ERA over six starts. Since June 9 of 2014 he has gone 4-2 while allowing more than three earned runs just once over the span of seven starts, four quality starts.
Adam joins Cheslor Cuthbert (June 16-22) and Lane Adams (June 23-29) as fellow Naturals to earn player/pitcher of the week honors in 2014, all of which have done so within the past month. He will look to extend his current scoreless streak of 12 innings when he starts the 7:05pm ballgame on Wednesday, which is the series finale between Northwest Arkansas and Tulsa at Arvest Ballpark.
