Game Summary: The Oklahoma City Comets were limited to two runs in a 6-2 loss to the Round Rock Express Wednesday afternoon at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. The Express (3-8) scored three unearned runs in the first two innings. Round Rock’s Jonah Bride singled in a run in the first inning before the Express added two more runs in the second inning on an RBI single from Willie MacIver and a sacrifice fly from Alejandro Osuna. Oklahoma City (5-6) got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the second inning thanks to a solo home run from Ryan Ward, who went 4-for-4 at the plate. The Express later added three runs in the ninth inning as MacIver scored on a wild pitch, Trevor Hauver collected a RBI single and Bride added a sacrifice fly to put the Express ahead, 6-1. After being held scoreless for six innings, Oklahoma City also broke through in the ninth inning, adding a run on a RBI groundout by Ryan Fitzgerald. Oklahoma City was held 1-for-12 with runners in scoring position throughout the afternoon.

Of Note:

-The six-game series between the Comets and Express is now tied at 1-1…The Comets’ overall record dipped below .500 to 5-6 and the Comets fell to 0-2 in field trip/mid-week day games this season after going 9-1 during those early starts last year.

-Ryan Ward recorded his first four-hit game of the season as he finished a perfect 4-for-4 with a homer, two doubles and a RBI. The outing marked his eighth career game with four or more hits as he also recorded the fourth game of his career with three extra base hits in one game. Ward is now batting 12-for-27 (.444) with five doubles, two homers and seven RBI in the month of April.

-Noah Miller reached base three times with a single, double and walk as part of a 2-for-3 day. In the process, Miller extended his on base streak to 11 games, reaching in every game to start the season.

-James Tibbs III picked up a hit to extend his on-base streak to 11 games — tied with Noah Miller for the longest on-base streak in the league to start the season.

-Ryan Ward homered in the second inning as the Comets have now homered in four straight games. The Comets’ 15 homers to start the season are second-most in the PCL as of Wednesday afternoon.

-The Comets defense has now turned at least one double play in nine of the first 11 games of the season and has 12 total to start the season — tied for most in Triple-A as of Wednesday afternoon.

-Oklahoma City starting pitcher Cole Irvin allowed three unearned runs across 5.1 innings, allowing eight hits as he surrendered no walks and struck out two batters in a losing effort. Irvin hasn’t allowed an earned run in his last 14.2 innings.

-Michael Siani picked up his first triple of the season and the fifth of the season for Oklahoma City to lead all of Triple-A as of Wednesday afternoon. The Comets’ five triples have been recorded by five different hitters — Siani, Zach Ehrhard, Ryan Fitzgerald, Austin Gauthier and James Tibbs III.
