Game Summary: Miguel Vargas hit a three-run home run and pitchers Andrew Heaney and Ryan Pepiot (4-0) combined to allow just one run in the Oklahoma City Dodgers’ 6-1 win against the Sugar Land Space Cowboys Thursday night at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. Rehabbing Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Heaney threw 4.1 scoreless innings before Ryan Pepiot held the Space Cowboys to one run over the final 4.2 innings for the win. Vargas hit his three-run homer in the third inning before Andy Burns added a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning for a 4-0 Dodgers lead. Alex De Goti connected on a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning that brought home Sugar Land’s lone run of the night. The Dodgers (35-22) added two more runs in the eighth inning on a RBI single by Michael Busch and sacrifice fly by Jason Martin as they completed a three-game series sweep of the Space Cowboys (21-36).

Of Note:

-Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Andrew Heaney continued his Major League Rehab Assignment with the OKC Dodgers, pitching 4.1 scoreless innings and allowing two hits while recording five strikeouts and no walks. The Oklahoma City native has been on the Dodgers’ Injured List since April 20 with left shoulder discomfort. Through two games with OKC, Heaney has allowed one run and four hits over 7.1 innings with 10 strikeouts and no walks.

-Pitcher Ryan Pepiot (4-0) allowed one run and five hits over the game’s final 4.2 innings with six strikeouts. He combined with Heaney for 11 strikeouts Thursday and the duo did not issue a walk, marking the first time this season the Dodgers did not issue a walk in a game.

-The league-leading Dodgers extended their winning streak to a fourth straight game for the fourth time this season as they improved to a season-best 13 games above .500 at 35-22.

-Miguel Vargas extended his hitting streak to a season-best 10 straight games, going 2-for-4 with a home run, three RBI and two runs scored. During the 10-game stretch, Vargas is 12-for-41 with two homers, four doubles and 12 RBI…Vargas’ three-run homer in the third inning was his ninth of the season.

-Drew Avans drew a season-high three walks and scored two runs Thursday as he reached base for a season-best 14th straight game with a plate appearance.

-Four of the Dodgers’ six hits Thursday went for extra bases. In addition to Miguel Vargas’ home run, Jake Lamb hit his seventh double of the season, Tony Wolters hit his fifth double of the season on his 30th birthday and Jason Martin connected on his fourth triple of 2022.

What’s Next: The Dodgers remain home and open a three-game series against the Salt Lake Bees at 7:05 p.m. Friday at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. Friday night’s game features Loop Rawlins: One Man Wild West Show presented by H&H Shooting Sports as well as Friday Night Fireworks following the game.
