Oklahoma City Dodgers – 6
Sunday, June 19, 2022 – Greater Nevada Field – Reno, Nev.
Game Summary: The Reno Aces erased an early 5-0 deficit, responding with 10 runs and sending the Oklahoma City Dodgers to a 10-6 loss in the series finale between the teams Sunday afternoon at Greater Nevada Field. The Dodgers (41-25) jumped out to a 5-0 lead in their first at-bat of the day. Jake Lamb hit a three-run homer and Jake Amaya added a RBI single as the first six OKC batters of the game reached base before an out was made. Later in the first inning, a sacrifice fly by Omar Estévez gave the Dodgers a 5-0 advantage. Reno (35-31) quickly started chipping away at the OKC lead, scoring runs on a sacrifice fly and a RBI groundout in the bottom of the first inning. The Aces scored two more runs in the third and fourth innings to trim OKC’s lead to 5-4. The Dodgers loaded the bases in the fifth inning and extended back to a 6-4 advantage via a bases-loaded walk by Estévez. Reno then took the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning when Dominic Miroglio connected on a grand slam and Jake McCarthy brought in another run on a RBI triple for a 9-6 Reno lead. The Aces scored their 10th run of the game on a RBI single in the seventh inning for a 10-6 lead as they snapped the Dodgers’ four-game winning streak.
Of Note:
-The five-run lead held by the Dodgers in Sunday’s loss was the team’s largest lead in a loss this season and largest since Aug. 28, 2021 against Las Vegas. In that game last August, the Dodgers led, 9-4, after seven innings before the Aviators scored six runs in the eighth inning in a 10-9 win against OKC at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.
-Sunday’s loss snapped the Dodgers’ four-game winning streak and the team fell to 1-4 when trying to advance to a season-high fifth straight win. Despite the loss, the Dodgers won the road series in Reno, 4-2. OKC has now won four consecutive series and is 9-1-3 through the first 13 series of the season…Sunday was the final meeting of the season between OKC and Reno and the teams split their 12-game season series, 6-6
-Jake Lamb hit his team-leading 15th home run of the season and his third homer in the last two games. He also drew a walk and finished with three RBI as he moved into the team lead with 48 total RBI this season and is tied for the team lead with 38 walks. Lamb also extended his hitting streak to 11 games, going 18-for-43 with three homers, six doubles, 12 RBI and 11 runs scored. The streak is tied for the longest hitting streak by an OKC player this season.
-Jake Amaya went 2-for-3 with a team-high two walks and a RBI as he has now hit safely in four straight games and collected an RBI in five consecutive games (12 RBI). Over the four-game hitting streak, Amaya is 8-for-16 with two homers, 11 RBI and three runs scored.
-The Dodgers scored five runs in the first inning Sunday, marking the third time in the last four games the team has scored at least five runs in an inning and the 16th separate inning in which they have done so this season...On the flipside, the Aces’ five-run fifth inning Sunday was the eighth time this season a Dodgers opponent has scored five or more runs in a single inning.
-Drew Avans collected a hit, walk and scored a run as he has reached base in 21 of his last 22 games with a plate appearance…Miguel Vargas and Ryan Noda both finished with multi-hit games. Vargas has five hits over the last three games, while Noda has hit safely in four of his last five games (five hits).
-The grand slam hit by the Aces in the fifth inning was the second grand slam allowed by the Dodgers this season and the first since May 7 against Albuquerque in OKC. It was also the first grand slam allowed by the Dodgers on the road since July 11, 2021 in El Paso.
-The Dodgers and Aces combined for 19 walks in the game, with the Dodgers drawing 10 walks for their highest single-game total since May 24 against Reno in OKC when they had 11 walks to tie their season-high mark. On the other hand, Dodgers pitchers issued nine walks for the most walks allowed by OKC since June 11 against Salt Lake at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark when they allowed 11 walks to tie their season high.
What’s Next: Following a day off Monday, the OKC Dodgers open a six-game homestand at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday against the Round Rock Express at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. It will be a $2 Tuesday featuring $2 select beer, soda and bottled water from a line of Budweiser and Pepsi products. COOP Ale Works draft beer will also be available at a special rate of $3.
