COLUMBIA, SC – The Fireflies allowed a trio of runs in the fourth and sixth innings as they fell 6-3 to Augusta Friday night at Segra Park.

Augusta (8-13) jumped out in front with a three-run fourth inning. After Francisco Floyd started the inning with a lead-off double, Brandon Parker and Adam Zebrowski set the table with a pair of one out walks. Then Luinder Avila (L, 5-7) tossed a wild pitch that allowed Floyd to score and moved up Parker and Zebrowski for Braulio Vasquez, who singled to score the pair and push the GreenJackets in front 3-0.

The GreenJackets would add another trio in the sixth inning off reliever Jonatan Bernal. A Connor Blair sacrifice fly to left started the scoring and then Eliezel Stevens closed out the inning with a two-run single to put Augusta up 6-1.

The offense centered around Carter Jensen Friday evening. The Fireflies (13-9) backstop hit a sacrifice fly to score Daniel Vazquez in the fourth and sixth innings. Then, in the eighth, he smashed a one-out ground rule double to left-center and came around on a Guillermo Quintana base knock to cut Augusta’s lead to 6-3.

River Town kept his streak rolling with a double in the fourth. He finished the night 2-4 with a pair of doubles and has now reached in a franchise-record 32-consecutive games. The outfielder has the fifth-longest active streak in Minor League Baseball.

Columbia continues their series with the GreenJackets tomorrow night at Segra Park at 6:05 pm. Southpaw Frank Mozzicato (0-4, 5.29 ERA) gets the nod for the Fireflies and RHP James Acuna (2-2, 2.88 ERA) starts for Augusta.

Tomorrow night will be a BLAST at Segra Park! It’s a Night Under the Big Top and to celebrate the circus lifestyle, we’ll have a stilt-walker, face painters and balloon animal makers, but the real show starts after the final pitch. The Fireflies will be shooting a man out of a cannon! Then we’ll cap off the evening with a fireworks show. You don’t want to miss out. Get your tickets at FirefliesTickets.com.
