Friday, August 5, 2022 – Smith’s Ballpark – Salt Lake City, Utah
*Game Summary: *The Oklahoma City Dodgers set the tone early with four runs in the first inning and kept adding on while the pitching staff continually kept the Salt Lake Bees off the board during a 13-0 win Friday night at Smith’s Ballpark. The Dodgers (62-41) scored in seven of nine innings and finished with 14 hits, including seven extra-base hits and three home runs. OKC scored four runs before an out was recorded in the first inning with a RBI double by Michael Busch and a three-run homer by Jason Martin. Martin went deep again in his next at-bat in the third inning and hit back-to-back homers with James Outman. The Dodgers scored in each of the final five innings, totaling six runs, including a pair of RBI singles by Ryan Noda. Seven different Oklahoma City pitchers combined to throw the team’s fifth shutout of the season. The Bees (49-54) managed six hits and drew eight walks, but the Dodgers pitching staff held Salt Lake 0-for-9 with runners in scoring position and stranded 12 runners on base.
Of Note:
-The Dodgers improved to 10-3 since the All-Star Break and improved their record to 62-41, matching their most games above .500 this season. -Jason Martin went 4-for-5 with two home runs, a double, four RBI and four runs scored. He set a season high with four hits, tied his season high in runs scored and collected his second game of the season with three extra-base hits. Friday marked his fourth multi-homer game of the season, as he set a new career high with 24 home runs, which ranks second in the Pacific Coast League.
-Jason Martin and James Outman hit back-to-back homers to start the third inning for the team’s eighth back-to-back home runs of the season. Outman went 1-for-4 with two RBI, a walk, hit by pitch and a stolen base in his return to the team following his Major League debut.
-Drew Avans reached base four times with two hits and two walks, as he went 2-for-4 with a double, RBI and two runs scored. Avans extended his on-base streak to 42 games, giving him the longest on-base streak by an Oklahoma City player during the team’s affiliation with the Los Angeles Dodgers (2015-present). It’s also the longest active on-base streak in the Minors. Avans has now reached base in 56 of his last 57 games and hit safely in 25 of the last 29 games.
-Ryan Noda went 3-for-6 with two RBI and now has 15 RBI over his last 10 games. Noda has driven in six runs over the last two games and seven runs over the last three games. He has 17th multi-RBI games this year.
-The OKC offense tallied 14 hits, with half going for extra bases. The Dodgers also drew 10 walks for their ninth game this season with double-digit walks, and they lead all Triple-A teams with 499 walks this season.
-Seven pitchers combined to throw the team’s fifth shutout of the season. It’s the second time this season the Dodgers pitched a shutout and won by at least 13 runs, joining a 19-0 victory at Round Rock May 12. It’s also the fourth time in the team’s Bricktown era the team pitched a shutout and won by at least 13 runs. Although the pitching staff allowed eight walks, they did not allow an extra-base hit and Salt Lake 0-for-9 with six strikeouts with runners in scoring position.
