Game Summary: James Tibbs III slugged two homers during a four-hit night and Landon Knack delivered six strong innings as part of a 6-3 win by the Oklahoma City Comets over the Sugar Land Space Cowboys Tuesday at Constellation Field. The Comets (27-18/68-51) opened the series with a two-run blast by Tibbs in the first inning. Sugar Land’s first hit of the game was a solo homer by César Salazar in the third inning to cut OKC’s lead to 2-1. The Comets responded instantly with a homer from Matt Gorski on the first pitch of the fourth inning and later stretched their lead to 5-1 when Alek Thomas collected a two-run triple in the fifth inning. The Space Cowboys (31-15/63-57) got a pair of runs back in the seventh inning on a two-run shot from Zach Cole. Tibbs homered for the second time leading off the eighth inning, putting the score at 6-3. Sugar Land loaded the bases with one out in the eighth inning before the Comets escaped the jam, then retired the side in order in the ninth inning to close out the game.
Of Note:
-The Comets have won three straight games, five of their last six games and are now 15-3 over their last 18 games...The Comets have won six of their last seven road games and have won five straight games at Constellation Field.
-James Tibbs III finished 4-for-4 with two homers, three RBI and a walk, marking his fifth multi-homer game of the season and second in the last five games. He also matched his season high with four hits for the fourth time this year…In seven games at Constellation Field, Tibbs has now hit eight home runs…He is on a season- and career-high 16-game on-base streak, collecting a hit in 15 of the 16 games.
-Landon Knack (3-0) completed a season-high 6.0 innings with one run, three hits, one walk and a season-high six strikeouts. He opened the game by retiring his first eight batters faced...Across the last six games, Oklahoma City starting pitchers have tossed 30.0 innings while giving up two runs — both on solo homers — and striking out 44 batters.
-Oklahoma City’s longest scoreless streak of the season came to an end at 22 innings. The stretch spanned four contests and was Oklahoma City’s best since a 23-inning streak July 29-Aug. 2, 2018…Comets pitchers struck out 11 batters Tuesday, recording at least 10 strikeouts for the fifth time in the last six games for a total of 72 strikeouts.
-Los Angeles Dodgers reliever Blake Treinen continued a Major League Rehab Assignment and made his first appearance with Oklahoma City. Treinen pitched 0.2 innings with one hit, one walk and one strikeout. He threw 24 pitches (11 strikes)...Treinen has been on the Dodgers’ Injured List since June 20 due to right elbow inflammation.
-Zach Ehrhard reached base twice with a single and a walk and scored one run. He has now reached base in 24 of his last 25 games, recording 33 hits, 25 walks and scoring 28 runs.
