Game Summary: Fueled by a three-run double from Alek Thomas in the 10th inning, the Oklahoma City Comets completed a comeback to win the 2026 Triple-A National Championship Game with a 5-3 victory over the Rochester Red Wings Saturday night at Las Vegas Ballpark. International League champion Rochester scored in the opening frame on a two-out single from Leandro Pineda. The Red Wings extended their lead in the second inning with a solo shot off the bat of Liover Peguero. Pacific Coast League champion Oklahoma City came back to tie the game with two runs in the eighth inning, scoring on a RBI single from Mike Sirota followed by a run-scoring double delivered by Ryan Fitzgerald. Rochester had runners at the corners with two outs in the ninth inning before Seth Halvorsen forced a fly out to send the contest to extra innings. Oklahoma City loaded the bases with its automatic runner followed by two walks to open the 10th inning. Thomas then cleared the bases by lining a double into left-center field for the Comets’ first lead of the game. Rochester plated its automatic runner via a double play in the bottom of the inning before Halvorsen struck out Leandro Pineda to secure the Triple-A title.

Of Note:

-Oklahoma City won its first Triple-A National Championship in franchise history. The victory comes in the team’s second appearance in the single-game format after a previous 7-6 loss to Norfolk in 2023…The Comets won the PCL’s first Triple-A National Championship since Sugar Land in 2024 and became the PCL’s second winner since 2021.

-The Pacific Coast League champion Comets ended the season winning 21 of their last 25 games overall, including the franchise’s sixth league title Thursday. The stretch included three straight postseason wins after beginning the PCL Championship series with a loss in the opener to Las Vegas Tuesday night.

-Alek Thomas picked up his third straight multi-hit game, finishing 2-for-3 with a double and three RBI. Across the final three games of the postseason, Thomas went 6-for-11 with one double and four RBI.

-Zach Ehrhard went 3-for-5 with a stolen base. He collected a hit in each of his final 16 games and went 29-for-65 (.446) with 11 extra-base hits and 12 RBI during the stretch. During his four postseason games, Ehrhard finished 9-for-17 (.529) with three doubles, one homer and five RBI.

-Ryan Fitzgerald drove in a team-leading six runs across four postseason games. His game-tying double Saturday was his 37th two-bagger of the year…He closed the season with hits in 10 straight games, going 15-for-42 (.357) with seven extra-base hits and 11 RBI.

-Emmet Sheehan pitched 5.1 innings with two runs, six hits, three walks and seven strikeouts in his first career postseason start. Sheehan struck out seven or more batters during each of his final four starts with Oklahoma City.

-The Comets bullpen allowed one run (none earned) across the final 4.2 innings with three hits, one walk and four strikeouts…The Comets allowed a total of seven runs across their final three postseason games.

-For the first time in the Bricktown era, Oklahoma City won a postseason contest that required extra innings. Oklahoma City last played in an extra-inning postseason contest during a 4-3 loss in 10 innings during a series-ending Game 4 of the 2018 American Conference Finals First Round at Memphis…Saturday marked the second extra-inning contest in Triple-A National Championship history and first since 2009 when Durham defeated Memphis in 11 innings at Oklahoma City.
