CLINTON, IA (June 28, 2019) - A 10-run rally by the Clinton LumberKings was more than enough to beat the Peoria Chiefs, 11-3, on Thursday night at NelsonCorp Field. 10-runs in the first inning by the LumberKings (5-3, 37-39) constituted their largest rally of the season and led to a sweep of the Chiefs (2-6, 32-45) in a four-game set for the first time ever in Clinton.
The LumberKings first inning put the game out of reach almost immediately. Peoria starter Franyel Casadilla allowed 10 runs in the inning on nine hits and was hung with the loss, as a result. Peyton Burdick had two hits in the first and Connor Scott drove home three runs in the inning as Clinton sent 14 men to the plate to break out to an early 10-0 lead.
Casadilla (3-2) rebounded following the first to turn in five innings for the Chiefs. He allowed 11 runs, nine earned, on 15 hits while walking two and striking out two.
The Chiefs scored all of their runs against Clinton starter Jake Walters. Peoria put up their first run of the night in the top of the second inning on a Delvin Perez RBI single. Two innings later, they added two runs in the top of the fifth.
The fifth inning rally prevented Walters from qualifying for the win. He turned in 4.1 innings allowing three runs on 10 hits while walking two and striking out two.
The LumberKings scored the game's final run in the bottom of the fifth. Burdick doubled home Zach Scott for his second RBI of the night.
Raul Brito (2-0) earned the win for Clinton with a 2.2 inning outing. He allowed no runs on one hit while walking none and striking out five.
The LumberKings will continue their homestand with the series opener of a three-game series with the Quad Cities River Bandits on Saturday night. Clinton will throw righty Tyler Mitzel (2-3, 2.81) while the Chiefs will tap right-handed pitcher R.J. Freure (4-2, 3.54).
