12 former Springfield Cardinals on St. Louis Opening Day Roster
The St. Louis Cardinals released their Opening Day roster this afternoon with 12 former Springfield Cardinals making up the active 25-man roster.Pitchers include RHP Jack Flaherty (2017), LHP Tyler Lyons (2012, 2014, 2017), RHP Carlos Martínez (2012-13), RHP Mike Mayers (2014-16), RHP Sam Tuivailala (2014), RHP Michael Wacha (2012, 2014)

Three former Springfield Cardinals are on the Cardinals' Disabled List: RHP
Flaherty and Weaver pitched for Springfield within the past two seasons. All other players in Springfield in 2016 or 2017 were on rehab assignments. Wainwright and Molina have only appeared as Springfield Cardinals on rehab assignments.
The 22-year-old Flaherty was 7-2 with a 1.42 ERA in 10 starts in 2017, pitching 63.1 innings and striking out 62 before a call-up to AAA-Memphis on June 1. That dominance continued in Memphis to a 2.74 ERA and 7-2 record over 15 starts, striking out 85 in 85.1 innings and earning a Major League call-up on September 1. Flaherty was 0-2 and posted a 6.33 ERA in six games for St. Louis in September. This spring he was 0-2 with a 4.60 ERA and a 0.96 WHIP with 24 strikeouts in 15.1 innings.
Weaver was equally impressive for Springfield in 2016, posting a 1.40 ERA in 12 starts as a 24 year old. He went 6-3 and struck out 88 in 77.0 innings before being assigned to Memphis on Aug. 5, 2016.
Since its inaugural season in 2005, 147 players that have worn a Springfield Cardinals jersey have either gone on to make their MLB debut with St. Louis or another MLB team or have appeared in Springfield on rehab assignments.
Springfield's Opening Day is April 12 at Hammons Field against the Midland Rockhounds. The Cardinals open on the road at Midland on April 5.
