2019 I-Cubs: Where Are They Now?

Cristhian Adames – Adames underwent left shoulder surgery earlier this year after an injury suffered while playing winter ball for the Torros Del Este in the Dominican Republic.

Jim Adduci – Adduci hung up his cleats on his playing career, but will join the Chicago Cubs staff in a new role as the Run Production Coordinator.

Albert Almora Jr. – Signed with the New York Mets as a Free Agent on Feb. 10

Adbert Alzolay – Remains active with the Chicago Cubs organization

Francisco Arcia – Free Agent

Alberto Baldonado – Free Agent

Wynton Bernard – Bernard signed a minor league contract with the Colorado Rockies on Jan. 19.

Matteo Bocchi – Active with the Chicago Cubs organization

Zach Borenstein – Free Agent

Craig Brooks – Active with the Chicago Cubs organization

Charcer Burks – Free Agent

Matt Carasiti – Carasiti inked a minor league contract with the Boston Red Sox on Jan. 21.

Victor Caratini – Caratini was dealt to the Padres in December in a blockbuster deal that included RHP Yu Darvish. The Cubs got RHP Zach Davies and a prospect package in return.

Erick Castillo – Free Agent

Trevor Clifton – Free Agent

Taylor Davis – Davis re-signed a minor league deal with the Orioles on Oct. 29, 2020.

Donnie Dewees – Dewees underwent surgery to repair a torn ACL this winter. It is likely that he will miss the 2021 season.

Brian Duensing – Retired

Carl Edwards Jr. – Edwards Jr. agreed to a minor league contract with the Atlanta Braves on Jan. 29.

Phillip Evans – Evans remains on the Pirates’ roster after batting .359 through 11 games for the Bucs in 2020. A broken jaw ended his season prematurely.

Johnny Field – Field is currently playing for Brisbane in the Australian Baseball League. He has yet to sign in affiliated ball for 2021.

Robel Garcia – García was DFA’d by the Cincinnati Reds, then claimed by the New York Mets on Oct. 26, 2020. He was designated again by the Mets on Feb. 1 and claimed by the Angels on Feb. 3.

Trent Giambrone – Active with the Chicago Cubs organization

Jacob Hannemann – Free Agent

Ian Happ – Remains active with the Chicago Cubs organization

P.J. Higgins – Active with the Chicago Cubs organization

Danny Hultzen – Hultzen joined the Cubs’ front office and will work as a pitching development assistant.

Dixon Machado – Machado re-signed with the KBO’s Lotte Giants after hitting .280/.356/.422 with 12 home runs for the team in 2020.

Vimael Machín – Machín was taken in 2019 Rule 5 Draft by the Oakland A’s. He remains active in the organization after batting .206/.296/.371 through 24 games in 2020.

Dillon Maples – Remains active with the Chicago Cubs organization

Brad Markey – Signed a minor league contract with the Detroit Tigers on Feb. 8

Dakota Mekkes – Remains active with the Chicago Cubs organization

Tyson Miller – Remains active with the Chicago Cubs organization

Alec Mills – Remains active with the Chicago Cubs organization

James Norwood – Remains active with the Chicago Cubs organization

Jeffrey Passantino – Passantino was claimed in the minor league portion of the 2020 Rule 5 Draft by the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Colin Rea – According to a Tweet from his agent Joe Speed, Rea is set to play for the Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks in the JPPL in 2021.

Randy Rosario – In December, the lefty signed a contract with the Chunichi Dragons of the NPB.

Wyatt Short – Remains active with the Chicago Cubs organization

Zack Short – Short was traded to Detroit for OF Cameron Maybin on Aug. 31, 2020

Matt Swarmer – Remains active with the Chicago Cubs organization

Junichi Tazawa – Tazawa signed with the Wei Chuan Dragons of the Chinese Professional Baseball League for 2021.

Duane Underwood Jr. – Remains active with the Chicago Cubs organization
