Scouting the Opponent

The Fireflies welcome the Myrtle Beach Pelicans to Segra Park for the first time since the club played 12 games against Myrtle Beach in April. Since their meeting, the two teams have gone separate directions. Columbia has played above .500 baseball and Myrtle Beach has been stuck in the cellar of the South Division.

Some top prospects visiting Segra Park from the Chicago Cubs include 22-year-old outfielder Ethan Conrad and RHP Kaleb Wing. Conrad was promoted to Myrtle Beach in July after hitting .412 over a couple of games in the ACL following a late start to the year. The Chicago Cubs selected Conrad 17th overall in the 2025 draft out of Wake Forest. Wing was a two-way player selected in the fourth round of last year’s draft out of high school and the Cubs decided to use him as a starting pitcher. In six starts in that role in Myrtle Beach, he is 0-2 with a 2.76 ERA through 16.1 innings with an incredible 24 strikeouts. The duo are ranked as the Cubs fourth- and seventh-best prospects according to MLB Pipeline.
