The Fresno Grizzlies (22-30) won 10-3 against the Albuquerque Isotopes (27-24) Monday afternoon, their fourth victory in five games. Derek Fisher (3-for-5), Teoscar Hernández (3-for-5) and Colin Moran (3-for-5) each notched three-hit games for the Grizzlies. For Hernandez and Moran, it was their first three-hit affair of the season.
Albuquerque took a 1-0 lead in the first, their only lead of the game. Mike Tauchman hit a RBI double to score Derrik Gibson who walked to get on. After a double to start the third, the next 14 Isotopes to get to the plate were retired in some form.
A nine-batter third for the Grizzlies gave them a 4-1 lead. Hernandez, Moran and A.J. Reed (2-for-5) knocked RBI singles followed by a Preston Tucker sacrifice fly to take the lead. With a base hit in the inning, Juan Centeno extended his hit streak to 18 games to pass Fisher for the 2017 club-best. Centeno's streak, which began on April 16, ties the longest hit streak in the Astros affiliation era (Joe Sclafani, 2015).
The Grizzlies extended their lead to 6-1 in the fifth on a two-run homer by Reed. His seventh of the season was also his second in consecutive games. The bomb to center scored Moran who's single to get on gave him his three-hit game.
The Isotopes cut the Grizzlies lead to 6-2 in the seventh. Cristhian Adames walked to get on and scored on a Rafael Ynoa (2-for-4) RBI double.
In the eighth Jon Kemmer scored on a fielding error after Tyler White singled to make the score 7-2. Fisher then crushed his team-leading 12th home run of the season to center. It was also his second long ball in back-to-back games. The three-run shot scored Tony Kemp (2-for-4) who walked and White to take a 10-2 lead over Albuquerque. Hernandez followed the homer with a single that gave him his three-hit game.
Jordan Patterson hit a solo home run for the Isotopes in the ninth, but the Grizzlies came away with the 10-3 win. It was Patterson's eighth homer of the season, hit deep to right center. Albuquerque starter Barry Enright (2-1) was dealt his first loss of the season, allowing six runs (five earned) on 10 hits and two walks with five strikeouts through five innings.
For the Grizzlies, starter Trent Thornton (2-2) earned the win with his third quality start in his sixth start of the season. He allowed one run on two hits and a walk with three strikeouts through six innings. Fresno reliever Brendan McCurry made his 2017 Grizzlies and season debut in the eighth and allowed one run on four hits and a walk with two punch-outs through the final two frames.
Fresno and Albuquerque close out the four-game series on Tuesday at 6:35 p.m. RHP Matt Flemer (2-3, 6.96) will be on the mound for the Isotopes against RHP Mike Hauschild (0-1, 7.65) for the Grizzlies, who will look to take three of four.
