FredNats Drop 5th in a Row, 11-4 to Fayetteville

Fayetteville, N.C. - The Fredericksburg Nationals lost their fifth game in a row, falling 11-4 at the hands of the Fayetteville Woodpeckers.

The Woodpeckers struck first, capitalizing on a hit batter in the bottom of the 1st. Logan Hughes went to first after a ball hit a few feet in front of the plate, then off of his back. Hughes stole second, got to third on a wild pitch, and scored on a Waner Luciano RBI single to make it 1-0. Fayetteville then added on two more in the top of the 3rd.

In the top of the 4th, the FredNats offense woke up. Gavin Fien and Juan Cruz singled, setting the table for 18th round pick Avery Ortiz to hit his first professional home run and tie the game 3-3. Jordan Williams then reached on a walk, stole second, got to third on a groundout, and scored on a wild pitch to put the Nationals up 4-3. The lead was short -lived as the Woodpeckers took the lead right back in the bottom of the 4th. Fayetteville added on five insurance runs in the bottom of the 8th to take a commanding 11-4 lead.

With the loss, the FredNats lose five games in a row for the first time all season. They’ll look to right the ship tomorrow as RHP Landon Harmon gets the start against RHP Jank Pichardo. First pitch from Segra Stadium is set for 5:05 PM.
