FredNats Homer Four Times in 11-2 Win Over Fayetteville

Fayetteville, N.C. - The Fredericksburg Nationals broke through the losing skid and avoided the sweep, beating the Fayetteville Woodpeckers 11-2 in the series finale. The FredNats hit four home runs for the second time in the last two weeks.

It was a tough start to the game, as in the bottom of the 1st, an error by the shortstop Avery Ortiz gave the Woodpeckers an early baserunner. Ben Tryon then hit a double off the tip of Juan Cruz’s glove at first base made it 1-0 for the home team.

The FredNats responded right away. In the top of the 2nd, Rafael Ramirez hit a solo home run to tie the game. An inning later, Cristhian Vaquero hit his 3rd home run in 10 games at Single-A, a two run shot, to put the Nats on top 3-1. In the 4th, the FredNats continued to rake, as Rafael Ramirez hit a two run blast into right center for his second homer of the game to make it 5-1. Later in the inning, Coy James had a sacrifice fly for his 70th RBI of the season, tying the Carolina League lead.

In the 5th, the offense continued to roll. After loading the bases on walks, Ramirez came to the plate and hit a two RBI single through the right side to get to five RBI on the game through five innings. In the 6th, Vaquero added on to his RBI total with an RBI single to make it 9-1. The fireworks continued in the later innings as in the 8th, Jordan Williams crushed a ball down the right field line for his 9th home run of the season to make it 10-2. In the 9th, the FredNats added on another to go ahead 11-2.

With the win, Fredericksburg breaks through its season-long five-game losing streak and gets back within five games of the division lead. The FredNats will look to have a better week when they return home to take on Kannapolis. First pitch in the series opener on Tuesday is set for 6:35 PM. Pitching matchups are TBD.
