Fredericksburg, V.A. - The Fredericksburg Nationals allowed six unanswered runs in the middle innings in a 9-5 loss to the Kannapolis Cannon Ballers.

For the third game in a row to start the series, the FredNats scored the games first run on an RBI double from Hunter Hines. Last year’s 10th round pick now has 35 RBI through his first 45 Single-A games.

That lead was short-lived though. After a scoreless three innings from Juan Reyes, Clarence Martina entered the game and struggled to find the zone. After walking the first three batters, he allowed all of them to score, and more. Martina ended up allowing six runs in just 1.1 innings, with five walks and three hits against him. Kannapolis scored six unanswered to go up 6-1.

The FredNats showed some fight in the bottom of the 6th down by six, taking advantage of four free passes to start the inning. They ended up scoring four runs to cut the deficit to two. Right away, Kannapolis answered with two runs in the top of the 7th to bring the lead up to four.

With the loss, the FredNats fall behind in the series 2-1. They’ll look to even it up tomorrow with RHP RJ Sales starting against RHP Fabian Ysalla. First pitch from Virginia Credit Union Stadium is set for 6:35 PM on the final frogs Friday of the year.
