Three Run 7th Inning Pushes FredNats Past Cannon Ballers 6-3

Fredericksburg, V.A. - The Fredericksburg Nationals bounced back and even the series at two games a piece with a 6-3 win over the Kannapolis Cannon Ballers

For the first time this series, Kannapolis scored the games first run. In the top of the 1st, the Cannon Ballers wasted no time, with their first two batters of the game reaching, and scoring. Jaden Fauske led off the game with a walk, then scored on a Matthew Boughton RBI double. The latter scored on a Stiven Flores sacrifice fly, as the Ballers DH added on to his team RBI lead.

After giving up another run in the top of the 3rd to go down 3-0, the FredNats responded in the bottom of the 4th, breaking through the shutout. Jordan Williams led off the inning with a single. Gavin Fien walked, then the cleanup hitter Hunter Hines continued to rake with RISP, hitting an RBI single to put the FredNats on the board. A few batters later, Cashel Dugger picked up his first two professional RBIs in an odd way, as after a groundball to the second basemen, the ball was thrown off the back of a baserunner, allowing Fien and Hines to score to tie the game 3-3.

MLB rehabber Josiah Gray was on the mound when the FredNats tied the game. In his second game of the rehab stint, the 2023 MLB all-star threw two scoreless innings with two strikeouts.

After stranding the bases loaded in the 6th, the FredNats loaded them again in the 7th, this time with no outs. The catcher Jamison Jones came through with an infield single to take the lead. Dugger then picked up two more RBIs, to get to four on the night, with a single that plated Hines and Rafi Ramirez to put the Nats up 6-3.

Adam Boucher closed the game out with a four out save, his first with the FredNats this year. With the win, the Nationals get their 70th victory of the year. They’ll look to get at least a split in the series tomorrow with RHP Landon Harmon starting against LHP Nick Pinto. First pitch from Virginia Credit Union Stadium is set for 6:35.
