FredNats Shutout for Just the 5th Time This Season in 1-0 Loss to Kannapolis

Fredericksburg, V.A. - The Fredericksburg Nationals were shutout for the 5th time this season, falling 1-0 to the Kannapolis Cannon Ballers.

The FredNats top pitching prospect Landon Harmon took the bump today and put together one of the best starts of his young professional career. The 19-year-old threw four innings, allowing just one run, on one hit, one walk, and a career high seven strikeouts. Harmon wasn’t given any support from his bats as he exited the game with his team trailing 1-0. Out of the bullpen, Cody Howard, Gus Hughes, LeoDarlyn Colon, and Sam Broderson kept the deficit at one. Hughes shined, striking out four of the five men he saw.

The offense struggled to get anything going throughout the game, but finally showed some life in the bottom of the 7th, getting runners on 2nd and 3rd with no outs, but they weren’t able to bring either runner home. The FredNats ended up being shoutout tonight for the 5th time this season, stranding the tying and go-ahead runners on base in the bottom of the 9th.

With the loss, the FredNats drop to 7 games out of first place in the Carolina League North Division second half standings with 14 games remaining. They’ll look to get a split in the series tomorrow as RHP Marlon De La Cruz gets the start against RHP Alexander Martinez. First pitch from Virginia Credit Union Stadium is set for 1:35 PM.
